Presenter: Dr. Haifeng Zhu, Ph.D., IEEE Fellow — Technical Director at BAE Systems, with twenty years of experience mainly in the aerospace industry (previously Boeing and United Technologies/RTX). Recipient of the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award (highest technical honor of United Technologies corporate research).

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) provides rigor to the development of complex products and reduces errors. In reality, products were rarely built from scratch. Instead, they were built upon previous successful products with or without MBSE. Traditional systems engineering methods and processes do not align well with these situations, resulting in high resource wastes and possible quality escape. This talk summarizes these critical challenges and technical solutions for engineering partially developed safety-critical systems. We will review algorithms and a structured process as a new MBSE framework, together with use cases in aerospace industry.
